“My mom put a memo on Facebook talking about how nice it was that I was growing up, but scary that she was losing me. I’m the first person in our family to go to college.”

I’m about to be a sophomore in college. Last year my parents dropped me off for the first time at school. I thought my parents were going to be a lot more afraid of letting me go, but they were pretty excited to see how I would grow. Later on my mom put a long memo on Facebook, talking about just how nice it was that I was growing up, but also how scary it was that she was losing me. I’m the oldest kid in the family and the first person in our family to go to college. It was cool to go out and not to have to worry about my parents taking care of me, to do things on my own, to go find food, to get a job, to figure out my school schedule without my mom being right behind my back with me. The truth is, it was also really nice coming back and coming home, back to living with my family.
