“My seven-year-old started having panic attacks and didn’t want to go to school. We couldn’t figure out why. It was because I was going to go back to work.”
My father died two weeks before my wedding. We got pregnant on my honeymoon and when she was two months old I was offered a job to move back to Pittsburgh. I am from Pittsburgh and completely changed industries. I used to be a radio morning show host and became an event planner for a non-profit. Everything about my life changed. I went from single to married, two parents to one parent, to three different states, and to a new career.
I lost my position last July. So, I took the summer, and said, “I never get to spend time with my children so I’ll take the summer off.” I waited till January. Then, Addison started having panic attacks and didn’t want to go to school. We couldn’t figure out why. It was because I was going to go back to work. I did Mary Kay on the side, and I promised her that I would try to make that work. So, thanks to her and losing my position – because I never would have ever left corporate America – I am happier than I have ever been in my life. I get to play with my kids now.
