“I didn’t want to retire, but I had to. Now I feel pretty good and I’m looking forward to being able to give whatever I can give to whatever God calls me.”

I didn’t want to retire, but I had to go on Social Security because I wouldn’t have had any medical coverage after having had a heart attack. I could not afford not to have hospitalizations. I hated just the thought of retirement after so many years. It was difficult the first couple of years because you feel like life is over. There’s not much you can contribute to society or even my own growth intellectually, spiritually, and so forth. At this point, I feel pretty good that some of that initial shock of retirement is gone now and I’m looking forward to being able to give whatever I can give to whatever God calls me.
