“I really didn’t know anyone. I didn’t have a church. I didn’t have anything. It was hard to make friends. Nobody was from Orlando, everyone was from somewhere else.”
In 1990 I had an opportunity to work at Universal Studios in Florida, right when they first opened. I decided to take the chance and get out on my own. I was literally on my own, living out of state for the first time, just out of college.
When I moved down to Orlando, I really didn’t know anyone. I didn’t have a church. I didn’t have anything. It was hard to make friends and meet new people. Nobody was from Orlando, everyone was from somewhere else. The one thing that helped was finding a church to go to every week. Having that consistency and knowing all those people there, we were all part of the same community with the same connection. While it was lonely during the week, looking forward to Sunday and getting to hold hands with people and say the Our Father was the highlight of the week.
